Frequently asked questions
How do I open an article in Sunny Reader?
Click the Sunny Reader icon in your Chrome toolbar on any article page.
Where are my notes, highlights, and saved articles kept?
On your computer, in Chrome's storage. Nothing is uploaded. You can export your settings from the Options page and your reading history from the History page—each as a single file.
Does Sunny Reader sync across devices?
No. Because the extension has no account and no server, there is no sync. You can manually export and import your reading history and settings to move between computers.
Reader view didn't open—what happened?
A few pages can't be opened in reader view: Chrome's own settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, PDF viewers, and some paywalled sites that hide the article behind a script.
How do I switch themes?
Open the reader, then click Style in the toolbar. There are ten themes, each with a light and dark variant. You can also turn on Match system dark mode to follow your system's light/dark preference automatically.
Can I export my reading history?
Yes. On the History page, click Export to download a single file with every saved article, note, and highlight. You can import it later or move it to another computer.
Why does Sunny Reader need these permissions?
Each permission is there to support a specific feature, and the extension never collects or transmits data. See the Privacy Policy for a plain-English breakdown of each permission.
How do I uninstall?
Right-click the Sunny Reader icon in your toolbar and choose Remove from Chrome…—or visit chrome://extensions and click Remove. Uninstalling deletes every piece of data the extension ever stored locally.
